Try mixing texture and color…if you have a great plaid for one child try doing a solid color chunky knit for your other child–it will add interest to your photo without too much pattern. Some of my favorite patterns this fall are houndstooth and argyle for boys and for girls anything from paisley to plaid. I’ve seen so many great looks in all these prints!

Although the kiddos and families that come to the studio always look amazing it’s fun to see what else is out there and what other people are wearing. I would love your comments, discussion and feedback as we go along as I know you all have lots of great ideas, too!

For those of you that are on Pinterest {we love it}… you can follow Christina as she pins some of her favorite looks on her clients- CM Fashion Board.

We’ve included some looks to bring you from summer to fall, so depending on what look you’re going for, here are some ideas for this transitional time.  We love layering as it adds nice texture and depth to a picture.  Generally speaking it’s best to steer clear of tops with a lot of words or pictures as it can detract from those adorable little faces!

For boys a collar shirt under a sweater or a stripe shirt under a solid button down adds a nice little pop of color.  People often ask if it’s ok for their boys to wear jeans, and absolutely positively…YES!  Jeans are adorable on little boys…rolled or cuffed, or just as is.  Boys and jeans just go together!

For girls, we love a jacket with a tank or a cute pattern dress with a cozy sweater over it.  If you have a few children in the picture it’s nice to choose a pattern for one child and then coordinate solid colored outifts with the others.  Too much pattern can distract from the focus of the picture…the kids!  But a little punch of color adds interest and a jumping off point for other outfit choices.

Boots are great for girls and moms, and are really cute paired with a dress or fitted pants.  Most importantly choose something that fits your style and comfort level.  It’s your picture and it should reflect what you and your family are all about!

7 fun & adorable families (not including the families Natalie photographed)!!

First up (probably not in the order of the day) but here we go. The Wing Family!! Such a sweet family & the kids were so adorable!! Thanks for coming out & it was so nice meeting you!

Next up the Gray Family!! I photographed Sidney right after he was born & now he is 6 months old!  Where did the year go?! Sid’s expressions just cracked me up. It was great seeing you guys again!

And now the Grinsteinner’s!! Isn’t Emme just gorgeous?! Her Mommy Jess is also a photographer. Love her work. Check it out… Poppy Photography.

And The Strand’s! You know Molly (my lifesaver!!). Molly & Matt and & their adorable & VERY active little boys kicked off the mini session event. Matt went home w/the boys after their session & Molly helped Natalie & I for the event. We love Molly!! If you are at the studio & have boys she knows everything about raising boys. Have  a question, just ask her!!

The Olson’s. I have done Becky, Craig, Paige & Brooke’s pictures so many times & I love each time!! Paige was born just a week after my little guy & Brooke was born 9 months after Addison. The Olson’s hold a very special place in my heart. xo

And the Reed’s!! Another family that I just adore!! When I worked in the corp world Paula actually hired me into the group that I stayed (and loved) for several years until I threw in the towel to be a Mommy (and take a few pictures of cute families). It was great seeing you guys!! I cannot believe how much Tyler & Missy have grown!! Thanks Dan for letting me interfere w/football for a little bit. I think I did pretty good to sticking to the schedule?!! xo

And last but not least… the Kennefick’s! I met them earlier this year when they brought his little guy Connor for his newborn session! Emma & Claire are twins & so much fun!! Thanks guys! It was great seeing you again!!
